Thermal Analysis Featuring Computational Fluid Dynamics
The TEXPO Thermal Assessment gives you the information you need to realize significant reductions in cooling consumption, new capital equipment expenditures, and energy costs, and helps reduce your carbon footprint and improve PUE. This assessment measures temperature and airflow in your data centre and employs CFD modelling to identify hot spots, improper equipment layout, and other issues that impact cooling efficiency.
|
Features |
Benefit |
|
Professional assessment to optimize the cooling infrastructure |
Maximizes the cooling effectiveness of the data centre by identifying problem cooling areas and detecting inefficiencies caused by improper equipment layout or operating set point conditions |
|
CFD modelling of temperature and airflow conditions |
Provides a baseline visualization of the data centre temperature and airflow patterns; identifies hot spots and restricted airflow that can compromise the reliability and availability of equipment |
|
Optimization recommendations including upgrade plans and remediation strategies |
Identifies the most efficient ways to improve cooling efficiency, minimizing the potential for thermal failure of equipment and maximizing the existing or planned floor space and cooling capacity |
|
Predictive impact analysis of new high density loads |
Simulates “what if” scenarios and causality situations, predicting the results of planned modifications and investigating potential “trouble spots” |
TEXPO will provide you the following services under this assessment.
Data Centre Cooling Distribution Review
- Visually assess the Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC) and Computer Room Air Handler (CRAH) units; check for general conditions, proper installation practices, equipment condition and proper use of equipment
- Identify the system type(s): direct expansion, water based or dry cooler, upflow or downflow, and document equipment manufacturer and model number
- Analyse supply and return temperatures, humidity, set points, and operational modes to determine environmental conditions and where demand variances may occur
- Identify and record the air distribution topology within the data centre
- Document the rated capacity of the CRAC/CRAH unit(s)
- Record and document room temperature and humidity levels; validate that the level ranges are within those established by the installed equipment manufacturers and correlate to industry standards
Rack Cooling Documentation and Analysis
- Examine rack enclosures for airflow suitability
- Detect and document areas where rack inlet temperatures exceed industry standards and guidelines
- Analyse rack arrangements for air distribution effectiveness
- Measure the airflow and temperature of raised-floor air distribution system and overhead grilles; identify airflow obstructions within, above, and below the rack environment
- Identify racks where air mixing is likely to occur and advise where blanking panels should be installed
Recommendations for Optimizing Cooling and Airflow
- Provide a comprehensive report indicating conditions that compromise cooling effectiveness and provide recommendations to correct problems Modelling of a Data Centre Environment
- Provide a floor plan layout of the existing data centre
- Provide a “thermal map” of the data centre showing hot aisle and cold aisle temperature profiles (elevations) and floor mid-point, and top-of-rack temperature plots (plan views)
- Provide “airflow models” of the data centre showing air velocity, flow direction, and associated room/plenum pressures
Future-State Scenarios Based on CFD Modelling and Analysis
- Provide conceptual drawing(s) depicting recommendations for cooling equipment and rack layout
- Create a baseline model of the data centre based on existing data centre attributes that depicts the airflow and temperature patterns of the space
- Create an optimized “future state” CFD model, based on an analysis of the baseline model that represents data centre layout improvements
- Provide a redundancy and growth analysis with “what-if” scenarios based on additional consultation regarding future deployment plans
